Iran’s national volleyball team secured its second straight victory at the 2026 Asian Games with a 3-0 win over Thailand in Nagoya.
Iran faced Thailand in its second preliminary-round match on the ninth day of the competition. Roberto Piazzi’s players controlled the match and won all three sets.
Iran took the opening set 25-18 before producing the same score in the second set. The team then closed out the match with a 25-15 victory in the third set.
The result followed Iran’s opening victory over Kyrgyzstan. The two consecutive wins have strengthened Iran’s position in the preliminary stage of the volleyball competition.
The match also featured a notable coaching connection between the two teams. Thailand is coached by Park Ki-won, who previously served as head coach of Iran’s national volleyball team.
Piazzi selected Amin Esmailnejad, Arshia Behnejad, Seyyed Isa Naseri, Mohammad Valizadeh, Ali Haghparast, Pouria Hossein Khanzadeh and Hossein Haji Kalateh for the starting lineup.
The Iranian squad maintained its momentum throughout the match and limited Thailand to 51 points across the three sets.
Iran will return to action in its third preliminary match on Tuesday. Piazzi’s team will face Indonesia as it continues its campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
The volleyball competition forms part of Iran’s wider participation at the 2026 Asian Games, where Iranian athletes are competing across multiple sports.
With two victories from its opening matches, Iran will now turn its attention to Indonesia and the next stage of the tournament.
