Iran has confirmed a major development in regional energy cooperation as it plans to extend its gas exports to Turkey. The Iran gas deal ensures continued supply, highlighting strong ties between the two neighbors. Officials say the contract renewal will strengthen long-term energy collaboration in the region.

Saeed Tavakoli, Managing Director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), confirmed that Iran will extend its gas export agreement with Turkey. He emphasized that pursuing long-term energy agreements remains one of the company’s top priorities. Tavakoli also noted that Turkey continues to seek Iranian gas, underlining sustained demand.

Negotiations between the two countries are ongoing to finalize the volume, method, and terms of the renewed contract. The current agreement will continue beyond 2026, ensuring uninterrupted energy cooperation. Experts say such long-term agreements are critical amid global energy market volatility.

Tavakoli highlighted recent challenges affecting the regional gas market. He explained that US LNG production has increased, while some countries have imposed export restrictions. Additionally, regional gas allocations are predetermined, which has intensified competition and market complexity. These factors make reliable long-term contracts, like the Iran gas deal, increasingly valuable.

The extension of the Iran gas deal reflects both countries’ commitment to energy security. It also signals the strategic importance of natural gas in Turkey’s energy mix. Analysts point out that this agreement could stabilize regional gas flows and reduce dependence on alternative, potentially costly, suppliers.

Iran’s gas sector has grown steadily over recent years. The country exports billions of cubic meters annually, supplying neighbors and regional partners. Long-term contracts help protect revenues and ensure market predictability despite global price fluctuations.

Looking forward, officials say the next steps include finalizing technical, financial, and operational details of the renewed contract. They also plan to explore mechanisms that enhance supply reliability and efficiency. Industry watchers expect the extension to support broader energy cooperation and strengthen geopolitical ties between Iran and Turkey.

Overall, the Iran gas deal underlines the importance of stable energy agreements amid shifting global markets. It ensures that both countries benefit from secure supply, predictable revenues, and a more resilient energy partnership.
