Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi publicly dismissed accusations from British Prime Minister Andy Burnham concerning Tehran’s involvement in the recent security event. Writing on the social media platform X, Araghchi challenged allegations regarding the suspicious RAF Fairford airbase incident. Burnham previously announced that official assessments strongly pointed toward foreign state involvement in the event. The dispute highlights escalating diplomatic tensions between the two nations following military developments in the region.

The confrontation began after British authorities investigated three vans found parked near the strategic military site. Police units secured the location and confirmed that inspectors found no actual explosive devices inside. However, search teams recovered quantities of petrol from the abandoned vehicles during their technical inspection. Counter-terrorism officers subsequently launched a comprehensive inquiry into the origins of the suspicious vehicles.

Law enforcement officers arrested five British residents living in London, aged between 23 and 25. Investigators held the suspects on suspicion of terrorism and explosives offenses before releasing them on bail. Foreign Minister Araghchi criticized their release, asserting that releasing foreign-backed suspects exposes flaws in the official British narrative. He urged London officials to search for the real culprits elsewhere instead of blaming Tehran.

Prime Minister Burnham emphasized that police operations remain active and complex while working closely with American partners. The airbase holds significant geopolitical importance because American forces frequently use the installation for long-range regional missions. Recent operations conducted from the facility have drawn sharp warnings and heavy diplomatic criticism from Iranian authorities. Intelligence services continue evaluating whether local actors operated independently or acted on behalf of external foreign handlers.

This high-profile dispute underlines growing friction surrounding security around military infrastructure across the United Kingdom. Officials in Washington closely track the ongoing probe, given the joint operations conducted at the installation. Moving forward, investigators plan to complete forensic analyses while international diplomats monitor the diplomatic fallout. British authorities maintain strict monitoring of the individuals released on bail while gathering further evidence regarding potential state links.
