Iranian wrestler Amin Mirzazadeh captured the 130kg Greco-Roman gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya. The powerhouse athlete defeated Uzbekistan’s Rafael Tsitsuashvili 3-1 in Wednesday’s highly competitive championship final. Consequently, his victory earned another prestigious gold medal for Iran’s national wrestling delegation in Japan. Furthermore, the tournament triumph reinforces Mirzazadeh’s status as a leading heavyweight Greco-Roman wrestler.
Throughout the preliminary rounds, the Iranian heavyweight demonstrated remarkable technical skill and physical strength against his competitors. Initially, Mirzazadeh launched his championship campaign with a convincing 7-0 victory over Kyrgyzstan’s Murat Zarlykbekovich Botoev. Subsequently, he faced China’s Meng Lingzhe in a hard-fought semifinal, securing a tactical 1-0 victory. Thus, the Iranian contender reached the final without suffering a defeat during the competition.
Defeated wrestlers competed in the consolation brackets at the Inae Sports Center for podium positions. Specifically, China’s Meng Lingzhe recovered from his semifinal loss to claim a bronze medal. Additionally, South Korean contender Kim Min-seok captured the other bronze medal in the heavyweight category. However, Mirzazadeh maintained his composure in the final, defeating Tsitsuashvili to secure the continental title.
This victory marks another milestone in Mirzazadeh’s international wrestling career. Greco-Roman wrestling remains an important part of Iran’s broader continental sports program. Moreover, sports officials praised the heavyweight champion for delivering strong results on major international stages. Moving forward, athletic administrators expect this gold medal to inspire future generations of Iranian wrestlers.
