Armed assailants ambushed a routine police patrol unit on Monday morning along the Bampour-Iranshahr roadway in southeastern Iran. Second Lieutenant Amirhossein Qasemi and First Sergeant Nezam Dastgoshadeh were killed during the sudden violent confrontation. Furthermore, another officer was injured during the assault and received immediate medical care at a regional hospital.
The targeted officers belonged to the Nokjo police station, which operates under the Bampour County Police Command. Following the ambush, the armed perpetrators fled the scene into surrounding rural areas before reinforcements arrived. Consequently, law enforcement agencies initiated comprehensive search operations across the district to identify and capture the suspects.
Bampour County is located approximately 22 kilometers from Iranshahr and serves as a key administrative hub in the region. However, southeastern border areas face persistent security challenges due to frequent armed clashes involving militant groups. Recently, security personnel in nearby districts such as Saravan and Zahedan have faced heightened operational risks and targeted assaults.
Military officials previously confirmed the death of Brigadier General Hossein Zarifi during recent counterterrorism operations in Saravan. That incident highlighted the growing complexity of maintaining public order across border provinces near Pakistan and Afghanistan. Therefore, regional defense commands continue enforcing elevated security protocols to protect vital transport infrastructure and residents.
Investigating authorities plan to issue further operational updates as field units conduct sweeping operations throughout Bampour. Security forces maintain rigorous border monitoring to prevent armed groups from escaping into remote mountainous areas. Ultimately, government agencies aim to strengthen law enforcement presence across vulnerable southeastern transit routes.
