First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Aref will attend the SCO meeting in Russia next week. The SCO meeting will bring together the heads of government from all member states. This event marks a key step in strengthening Iran’s role in regional cooperation.

Aref will travel to Moscow on Monday to participate in the 24th Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The meeting will take place the following day. Iran became an official SCO member in September 2021, joining nine other Eurasian countries.

Before the main meeting, SCO member states conducted a three-day expert meeting. This meeting focused on drafting the Action Plan for 2026-2030. The plan aims to implement the Program of Multilateral Trade and Economic Cooperation among all member states.

During the expert meeting, representatives coordinated on the text of the draft Action Plan. They agreed to include it in the list of documents proposed for signing at the Council of Heads of Government meeting. The plan emphasizes closer cooperation in politics, economics, security, and counter-terrorism.

Mehrdad Kiaie, Iran’s director general for SCO and BRICS affairs, attended the expert meeting. He also met with Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali. They discussed measures to strengthen Iran’s collaboration with the SCO.

The SCO meeting will provide a platform for member states to discuss regional stability and economic partnerships. It will also highlight Iran’s commitment to multilateral trade and cooperation. By attending, VP Aref will actively engage with leaders to promote strategic initiatives.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization remains a key forum for Eurasian countries. It addresses challenges in security, politics, and trade while encouraging collective growth. Iran’s involvement demonstrates its dedication to strengthening international ties.

Overall, the SCO meeting will serve as a critical stage for advancing Iran’s role in regional affairs. Aref’s participation highlights Tehran’s ongoing efforts to contribute to multilateral agreements and long-term economic collaboration.
