IMO Assembly: Iran Joins High-Level Maritime Talks in London

Iran attended the 34th IMO Assembly in London, where global leaders discussed maritime safety and environmental standards. Moreover, the senior Iranian delegation was led by Saeed Rasouli, Managing Director of the Ports and Maritime Organization, highlighting Iran’s active engagement.

The opening session focused on the organization’s objectives, strategic vision, and adoption of critical resolutions. Additionally, Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez highlighted the need for technical cooperation and decarbonization of marine fuels.

Dominguez praised the work of the Maritime Safety Committee and the Marine Environment Protection Committee. Furthermore, he noted their significant contributions to reducing marine pollution and enhancing safety across international shipping. He also emphasized IMO’s ongoing support to all member states.

Iran’s delegation, headed by Rasouli, participated in discussions to strengthen maritime safety, environmental protection, and port management. Consequently, Iran’s role in shaping international maritime policy continues to grow.

In recent years, IMO has prioritized reducing greenhouse gas emissions from shipping. Therefore, active engagement in the IMO Assembly allows countries to influence global standards and access technical support.

The Assembly also addressed challenges facing global trade, including security threats, regulatory compliance, and infrastructure development. Moreover, officials stressed the need for coordinated action to maintain safe and efficient shipping networks. Rasouli confirmed Iran’s readiness to collaborate with other states to promote safety and sustainable growth.

Looking ahead, the IMO Assembly plans to adopt further resolutions supporting innovation, safety, and environmental protection. As a result, member states are expected to exchange best practices and enhance technical cooperation. Iran’s participation positions it as a proactive player in these initiatives.
