The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) successfully dismantled a terrorist cell in SE Iran, authorities confirmed on Monday. This operation marks a significant step in maintaining regional security and combating extremist activities.

The IRGC Ground Force’s Quds Base reported that its units identified and arrested two members of a terrorist group operating in Sistan-Baluchestan. The arrests occurred during ongoing “Martyrs of Security” drills, which aim to strengthen counterterrorism measures in the southeastern provinces.

Officials stated that the detained individuals were found in possession of two explosive suicide vests. Security forces confiscated the vests, preventing potential attacks in the region. The IRGC emphasized that the operation reflected the organization’s commitment to protecting civilians and stabilizing SE Iran.

Sistan-Baluchestan has long faced security challenges due to its strategic location near borders and its history of extremist infiltration. The region’s authorities have conducted multiple operations in recent years to suppress militant networks and disrupt planned attacks. Analysts note that these measures have increasingly limited terrorist groups’ ability to operate freely in the southeast.

The IRGC’s statement highlighted that the arrests were part of a broader strategy under the “Martyrs of Security” program. The drills aim to train personnel, improve coordination, and swiftly respond to potential threats. Experts say that such initiatives enhance national security while reassuring local populations of government protection.

Senior military officials stressed the importance of intelligence-driven operations. They explained that the successful capture of the suspects demonstrated effective surveillance, rapid response, and collaboration among security units. The IRGC also called for public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities to further strengthen regional security.

The dismantling of this terrorist cell in SE Iran may have wider political and social implications. It signals Tehran’s determination to curb extremist activity and maintain stability along sensitive border areas. Moreover, the operation could influence regional security policies and counterterrorism approaches in neighboring provinces.

Looking ahead, authorities are expected to continue similar operations, combining intelligence gathering with proactive security measures. The IRGC reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining peace and safety in SE Iran while monitoring potential threats closely.

This recent success underscores the ongoing challenges in Sistan-Baluchestan and the importance of coordinated security efforts in preventing attacks and maintaining public safety.
