Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned that economic demands must be heard to prevent protests and maintain social stability. He said that if authorities had addressed citizens’ concerns earlier, recent street demonstrations would not have escalated. Moreover, Pezeshkian urged the government to listen to merchants, bazaaris, and citizens from all social sectors before unrest spreads. He added that economic demands should guide government planning and decision-making. At a meeting with the economy minister and senior deputies in Tehran, Pezeshkian outlined concrete steps to respond to public concerns. Specifically, he instructed officials to actively follow up on citizens’ complaints and implement practical solutions. Consequently, authorities admitted that delaying action on economic demands has fueled public frustration.

Furthermore, Pezeshkian stressed the importance of decentralizing economic development from the capital to regional centers. He called for more investment in southern port cities to create balanced growth and stronger local economies. He emphasized that this approach would reduce inequalities and prevent future unrest. Protests in Iran over the worsening economic situation began in late December 2025. Initially, demonstrators focused on rising inflation, unemployment, and living costs. However, over time, the protests expanded to reflect broader concerns about economic planning and governance. Nevertheless, authorities emphasized their commitment to tackling the root causes while maintaining public order.

Experts pointed out that many regions outside Tehran face slower growth, limited infrastructure, and fewer job opportunities. By prioritizing economic demands, the government seeks to strengthen social stability and support long-term prosperity. In addition, Pezeshkian’s remarks show a pragmatic approach to solving both immediate and structural issues. Officials plan to engage directly with local business communities and economic councils to design targeted solutions. Analysts noted that addressing economic demands enhances public trust and demonstrates responsible governance.

Therefore, by following up on citizens’ concerns, authorities aim to reduce unrest and foster inclusive economic growth. Finally, Pezeshkian concluded that economic demands remain a key tool for shaping policy and ensuring that Iran’s development benefits all regions. Moving forward, authorities will continue monitoring economic conditions closely and adjust programs to maintain stability.
