Iran will host the next APA General Assembly, marking a major step in the country’s parliamentary diplomacy. This decision highlights Iran’s growing role in regional political cooperation. Moreover, the assembly will bring together delegations from 44 Asian countries. Hamidreza Hajibabaee, a deputy speaker of Iran’s Parliament, shared the news after attending the 16th assembly in Bahrain. He confirmed that Iran was chosen to lead the APA Standing Committee on Economic Affairs and Sustainable Development. Therefore, Tehran will now play a key role in guiding regional parliamentary initiatives.

The APA General Assembly has become a major platform for dialogue and cooperation among Asian parliaments. Founded in 2006, it developed from the Association of Asian Parliamentarians for Peace, which began in 1999. Since then, it has promoted policies, encouraged discussion of regional challenges, and supported economic and social initiatives. Hajibabaee emphasized that hosting the assembly in Tehran represents a significant diplomatic opportunity. In addition, he noted that the event will allow Iranian officials to meet directly with Asian lawmakers. As a result, political ties can strengthen, and collaborative strategies for sustainable development can advance.

During the APA Executive Council meeting in Manama, Hajibabaee explained the outcomes, highlighting Iran’s election to lead the committee on economic affairs. This position will allow Tehran to influence discussions on trade, infrastructure, and regional economic planning. Furthermore, it reflects the confidence of member countries in Iran’s leadership. Experts say hosting the assembly can enhance Iran’s international standing. For instance, it can attract investment, encourage regional cooperation, and show Iran’s commitment to peaceful parliamentary dialogue. In addition, Tehran’s leadership role may improve diplomatic relations across Asia.

Looking ahead, the APA General Assembly in Tehran will provide a platform for member countries to exchange ideas and develop actionable solutions. Hajibabaee encouraged participants to actively engage in discussions and contribute to regional growth. Finally, the assembly is expected to set the tone for future collaboration among Asian parliaments. By hosting the APA General Assembly, Iran reinforces its position as a key player in regional diplomacy. Moreover, the event shows Iran’s dedication to economic development, sustainable projects, and strengthening parliamentary networks across Asia.
