Iran and Iraq have committed to strengthening their security coordination as tensions in the region continue to rise. At a joint press conference in Tehran on Monday, Iranian Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani and Iraqi National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Araji stressed the urgent need for closer security coordination between Tehran and Baghdad.

Larijani emphasized the direct connection between security and economic stability, saying, “If we want our economic relations to remain stable, we must strengthen our security ties.” His comments highlight Iran’s view that regional peace is essential for sustained economic growth. He also expressed appreciation for Iraq’s position during the recent 12-day conflict involving Israel and Iran, noting that Israel exploited Iraqi airspace during the hostilities.

The Iranian official pointed to the importance of coordinated efforts to prevent any further escalation. Larijani’s remarks reflected Tehran’s broader strategy to deepen partnerships with neighboring countries like Iraq to enhance regional security.

Meanwhile, Al-Araji, speaking from the Iraqi side, reiterated Iraq’s firm stance against the use of its airspace for military actions targeting Iran. He confirmed that both Israeli and Iranian forces violated Iraqi airspace during the conflict. He also reaffirmed Iraq’s non-recognition of Israel and its strict laws against normalizing relations with the country.

The press conference underscored Iran’s priority to solidify ties with Iraq through enhanced security coordination. Both nations share a common interest in preventing future conflicts and promoting diplomatic resolutions. Larijani’s statements reflect Iran’s push to bolster alliances that can help it counterbalance regional threats.

Furthermore, Al-Araji mentioned Iraq’s active diplomatic role, including participation in the Sharm el-Sheikh summit. He condemned repeated Israeli aggressions and insisted on respecting ceasefire agreements, especially concerning Gaza. His opposition to sanctions also aligns with Tehran’s preference for resolving disputes through dialogue.

This renewed focus on security coordination marks a significant step in Iran’s approach to regional stability. Analysts suggest that Iran’s efforts to deepen its partnership with Iraq could shape geopolitical dynamics across the Middle East. By working closely on security, both countries aim to create a more stable environment for economic and political progress.

In conclusion, Iran’s emphasis on security coordination with Iraq highlights its commitment to maintaining regional influence and safeguarding its interests. The collaboration between Tehran and Baghdad may prove crucial in managing ongoing tensions and fostering a peaceful future for the region.
