Iran’s former nuclear chief has shared cautious optimism about the upcoming nuclear talks with the United States. Ali Akbar Salehi emphasized the importance of national unity during these discussions. He also warned against foreign mischief and ill-timed domestic positions that could affect progress. Nuclear talks, he said, require careful management to succeed.

Salehi explained that opportunities for negotiation can disappear quickly, comparing them to passing clouds. He stressed that Iran must remain vigilant and use wisdom in both domestic and international affairs. He said policy-making and decision-making must be fast and accurate to handle ongoing challenges, including security, regional, and economic concerns.

The former foreign minister praised Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Ali Larijani, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, as skilled and competent negotiators. Larijani, who led Iran’s early nuclear negotiations, plays a key role in shaping the country’s nuclear strategy. Salehi expressed confidence that their combined expertise would guide nuclear talks successfully.

Iranian officials said Araghchi and U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff will lead face-to-face negotiations. While the discussions were initially planned for Istanbul, Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced a possible shift to Muscat, Oman. These nuclear talks come after a period of disruption due to regional conflicts that have complicated diplomatic relations.

President Masoud Pezeshkian instructed the Foreign Ministry to pursue negotiations under fair and equitable conditions. He emphasized the importance of dignity, wisdom, and national interest as guiding principles for these talks. In his public statement, Pezeshkian highlighted that negotiations must occur in a safe atmosphere without threats or unrealistic expectations.

Salehi reinforced the idea that nuclear talks require unity and careful strategy. He called for prudence and patience while addressing both domestic and international challenges. He urged all officials to act wisely, considering the interconnected issues of security, economy, and diplomacy.

In conclusion, Salehi expressed hope that the nuclear talks would proceed with skillful management. He prayed for success for Araghchi, Larijani, and other negotiators during this critical period. With careful planning and national unity, Iran aims to navigate these nuclear talks effectively, balancing diplomacy and security concerns.
