Araghchi Calls Munich Security Conference “Munich Circus,” Blasts Europe’s Role

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi criticized the Munich Security Conference, calling it a “Munich Circus.” He said Europe’s role in global affairs has weakened. In a post on his X account, Araghchi expressed concern over the event’s tone. He said the conference used to be serious but now favors performance over substance. This decline, he added, carries important messages for the world.

Araghchi highlighted that Europe’s role has shifted dramatically. He explained that Europe used to be central in global dialogue. Today, however, its influence has become almost negligible. He said this change affects regional and international issues, including negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program. The Iranian foreign minister argued that the Munich Conference reflects Europe’s misguided policies. These policies, he said, have reduced its standing globally. He pointed out that Germany, in particular, has abandoned independent regional policy. Instead, he claimed, it fully aligns with Israel’s interests.

Araghchi warned that Europe’s role shows broader trends. He said the European Union has lost strategic direction. He added that its current path demonstrates paralysis in dealing with critical global issues. Furthermore, he stressed that the EU’s diminishing influence affects practical matters. Talks on Iran’s nuclear program, for instance, illustrate Europe’s limited impact. Araghchi noted that without decisive action, Europe risks becoming irrelevant in global diplomacy.

He also commented on Europe’s inability to lead constructive dialogue. Araghchi emphasized that Europe’s role should be active, not passive. He called on European nations to reassess their policies and regain credibility. In conclusion, Araghchi said the Munich Security Conference has lost its original purpose. He stressed that the event should return to substantive discussion rather than mere display. He warned that ignoring Europe’s role decline could have long-term consequences for regional stability and global cooperation.
