Iran warns Azerbaijan to remove Israeli forces, stressing that foreign military presence threatens regional stability. Furthermore, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps emphasized that Tehran expects Baku to act immediately. Commander Ebrahim Zolfagari, head of the IRGC’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, issued the warning.

He stated that Israeli forces must leave Azerbaijani territory to prevent insecurity and protect public safety. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of cooperation between the two governments. This warning comes after months of heightened tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. In particular, joint U.S.-Israeli operations on February 28, 2026, targeted Iranian sites.

Following those attacks, the IRGC launched multiple drone and missile strikes against Israeli and American positions in neighboring countries. Consequently, Tehran described these operations as defensive measures. Moreover, Zolfagari warned that failing to remove foreign forces could increase risks for nearby nations. He stressed that Iran will act decisively to defend its borders.

Experts note that Iran warns that Azerbaijan represents a broader geopolitical struggle. For instance, Professor Hamid Shirazi, a Middle East security analyst, stated, “Iran seeks to prevent escalation and protect strategic interests near its borders.” In addition, Iranian officials emphasized that military actions aim to safeguard Muslim populations and secure friendly states from harm. Furthermore, they insisted that operations follow a controlled strategy to avoid wider conflict.

Recent statistics show an increase in cross-border incidents across the Caucasus region. Therefore, analysts argue that removing external forces could reduce tensions and prevent further escalation. Also, Iranian authorities called for continuous diplomatic communication with Azerbaijan. They highlighted that coordination remains essential for maintaining peace and stability in shared border areas.

Regional implications of Iran warns Azerbaijan extend beyond bilateral relations. Stability in this corridor affects energy routes, international security, and regional trade networks. Looking ahead, Tehran plans further talks with Azerbaijani officials. Analysts predict these discussions could lead to verification mechanisms and preventive security agreements. Ultimately, Iran warns that Azerbaijan signals a serious commitment to regional security. By insisting on removing Israeli forces, Iran aims to protect its borders and prevent future conflicts.
