Iran’s culture minister, Abbas Salehi, visited the National Library of Spain in Madrid, emphasizing the importance of cultural cooperation. Moreover, the visit coincided with Salehi’s trip to Barcelona for the UNESCO Mondiacult 2025 summit. During his tour, the minister explored multiple departments and learned about the library’s extensive collection of books and manuscripts. Consequently, cultural cooperation between Iran and Spain became a central topic.
First, Salehi met with the library’s director to discuss future collaboration opportunities. In addition, he stressed the value of formal agreements to strengthen ties between national cultural institutions. Throughout the visit, the Iranian Cultural Counselor in Spain and the Secretary General of Iran’s UNESCO Commission accompanied Salehi. Furthermore, the minister invited the library director to visit Iran.
He highlighted the importance of finalizing a memorandum of understanding to promote cultural cooperation. Currently, the Cultural Counselor at the Iranian Embassy in Spain is reviewing the proposed agreement. Therefore, both sides aim to improve exchange programs and joint projects.
Salehi’s visit also overlapped with the UNESCO Mondiacult 2025 conference in Barcelona. There, ministers of culture and international representatives discussed culture’s role in sustainable development. Additionally, Salehi held multiple bilateral meetings to expand cultural cooperation. As a result, these discussions could strengthen both diplomatic and cultural relations.
Officials noted that libraries serve as essential cultural and educational hubs.
