Iran has strongly condemned the drone attack that targeted the residence of Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, in Dohuk, northern Iraq. It described the incident as a serious and unacceptable violation of international law and, moreover, a threat to regional stability.
In this context, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi sent an official message on Saturday to Nechirvan Barzani via his Telegram account. He strongly denounced the attack as a “terrorist act.” At the same time, he expressed concern over the incident. In addition, he wished Barzani safety and good health after the strike. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of peace and stability in the region.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement, the Iranian Armed Forces also condemned the drone attack. They called it a “clear violation of international law.” Moreover, they said it is a direct threat to the security of the Kurdistan Region. The statement added that such actions weaken peace efforts. As a result, they also increase tensions in a sensitive region.
In addition, the Armed Forces stated that the attack reflects ongoing regional instability. They linked this instability to external interference. Furthermore, they warned that foreign involvement in Middle Eastern affairs has increased insecurity. Consequently, it has created long-term security challenges across the region.
Moreover, Iran warned about the strategic cooperation between the United States and Israel. It said this alliance poses a serious threat to international peace and security. In turn, it added that such policies increase tensions. Ultimately, they make conflict resolution more difficult.
On the diplomatic level, Tehran called on the United Nations Security Council to act. It urged the international community to respond to such attacks. At the same time, it called for efforts to prevent further escalation. Overall, it emphasized the need to protect regional and international stability.
The drone strike on the residence of Nechirvan Barzani in Dohuk on Saturday has triggered strong political reactions in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. However, authorities have not identified the perpetrators. Therefore, investigations are ongoing to determine the details of the incident.
