Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the United States of malicious intent. He also said Washington lacks seriousness in diplomacy. This diplomatic deadlock persists ahead of a possible second round of talks in Pakistan.
Araghchi spoke with Pakistani Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar. He pointed to several troubling US actions. These include threats to Iranian ports and ships. The US has also made unreasonable demands. Moreover, Washington keeps changing its positions. For Araghchi, these are clear signs of bad faith. Therefore, the diplomatic deadlock persists.
A two-week ceasefire between Iran and the US expires on April 22. President Donald Trump announced a US delegation will go to Pakistan. He also renewed military threats against Iran. Trump warned the US could attack Iranian power plants and bridges. Consequently, Iran has not confirmed its own delegation for the talks.
Araghchi reminded his Pakistani counterpart of recent US attacks. The US struck Iran in June 2025 and again in late February 2026. Both attacks happened during nuclear negotiations. Iran says these acts break any diplomatic process. Still, Tehran agreed to a Pakistan-brokered truce on April 8. That temporary ceasefire followed US acceptance of a 10-point Iranian plan.
Senior Iranian and American negotiators met in Islamabad on April 11. They held nearly 21 hours of talks. Yet they reached no agreement. Iranian officials blamed excessive US demands. They also cited Washington’s constantly shifting positions. Thus, the diplomatic deadlock persists for now.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday. Their call lasted 45 minutes. Sharif briefed Pezeshkian on recent meetings with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey. These interactions build regional consensus for dialogue. Pakistan vows to remain fully committed to peace efforts. Foreign Minister Dar also expressed readiness for more consultations.
Araghchi said Iran will use all its capacities to protect national interests. Tehran enters diplomacy with a responsible approach. But Washington’s threats and contradictions block progress. The US naval blockade of Iranian ports also complicates matters. For Iran, actions speak louder than words in diplomacy.
The ceasefire ends on April 22 without an agreement. A second Pakistan-hosted round remains uncertain. Iran has not decided on sending a delegation. Washington continues its military threats. Pakistan keeps pushing for a peaceful resolution. Regional stability now depends on whether both sides return to the table.
