Iran biotech leader status is rising as the country now ranks among Asia’s top five manufacturers of biotech products. This achievement highlights Iran’s growing influence in biotechnology and its impact on healthcare.
Mostafa Ghanei, secretary of the Biotechnology Development Headquarters at the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology, made the remarks during the specialized panel “Iran’s Biotechnology Ecosystem” held on Friday in Sari, northern Iran. He emphasized that Iran’s biotech sector is expanding rapidly and producing significant economic benefits.
Ghanei explained that the production of biopharmaceuticals in Iran has already saved the country over $3.8 billion. He added that the sector’s growth not only boosts domestic healthcare capacity but also strengthens Iran’s position as an Iran biotech leader in Asia.
The official pointed to the recent establishment of 14 centers focused on cell therapy and gene therapy across the country. These centers mark a strategic step toward modernizing medical treatments and advancing healthcare technology. Ghanei said knowledge-based enterprises will soon become the central pillar of Iran’s healthcare system. This shift is expected to lower treatment costs and increase patient satisfaction.
