A moderate magnitude 5 earthquake struck the Bardsir district in Kerman province during the late morning hours. This seismic event occurred recently and caused significant local alarm throughout several major southern urban centers. According to the Seismological Center of Tehran University, the tremor originated at a shallow depth of 8 kilometers. Residents in the provincial capital of Kerman and nearby cities like Rafsanjan reported feeling the ground shake clearly. Consequently, provincial emergency services immediately entered a state of high alert to manage any potential secondary incidents.

The epicenter of the quake was located near the village of Kamalabad, approximately 29 kilometers from Bardsir. This specific geographic area sits on several active fault lines that historically produce regular seismic activity in Iran. Following the initial shock, the Red Crescent Society of Kerman dispatched four specialized assessment teams to the region. These experts began evaluating residential structures in rural areas to identify any structural failures or civilian injuries. Fortunately, preliminary reports from the Kerman Crisis Management Directorate indicate that the event caused no immediate casualties.

Emergency officials emphasized that the shallow depth of the earthquake often increases the perceived intensity of the shaking. Therefore, local authorities advised citizens to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols regarding potential aftershocks in the area. The regional electricity and water departments also conducted rapid inspections of critical infrastructure to ensure service continuity. Despite the intensity of the vibration, most modern buildings in the district appeared to withstand the seismic energy. Nevertheless, older mud-brick structures in remote villages remain a primary concern for the technical assessment teams currently on-site.

Iran remains one of the most seismically active countries in the world due to various tectonic plate movements.Historically, the province of Kerman has suffered from devastating earthquakes, including the catastrophic events in the city of Bam. Thus, the government continues to invest in seismic monitoring and public education to minimize risks during such events. This latest tremor serves as a reminder for the necessity of strict building codes and disaster preparedness. Moving forward, the national disaster management organization will continue monitoring the Bardsir fault lines for any further significant shifts.
