Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian visited the Azadi Sports Complex on Thursday to assess the destruction. Consequently, he officially called for the immediate and full restoration of the country’s damaged sports infrastructure. During the visit, the president emphasized the importance of these venues for national identity and pride. Because recent military actions occurred, the historic twelve thousand seat multipurpose arena suffered complete destruction. Pezeshkian viewed the ruins of the site while speaking with various sports officials and complex managers. Therefore, he urged these administrators to accelerate the reconstruction process to restore national dignity and joy.

The current regional conflict began on February twenty-eighth and has lasted for over forty days. Throughout this period, strikes targeted numerous public buildings and critical infrastructure projects across the entire nation. Additionally, Minister of Sports and Youth Ahmad Donyamali documented the widespread damage to the country’s athletic facilities. His report to the International Olympic Committee cited the destruction of nearly three hundred sports venues. For this reason, these statistics highlight the scale of the damage to the nation’s recreational systems. Furthermore, the loss of the Azadi Sports Complex represents a significant blow to the country’s heritage.

The Ministry of Sports and Youth reported the deaths of over two hundred athletes. This figure includes sixteen women and one hundred and eighty-seven men from various sports disciplines. Moreover, President Pezeshkian noted that targeting such venues demonstrates hostility toward the nation’s symbols of honor. He argued that these sites serve as essential repositories for the historical memory of people. As a result, the government has prioritized the protection of all remaining sports places from harm. Ultimately, the Iranian people view the reconstruction of the Azadi Sports Complex as a vital step toward recovery. Managers are already developing a comprehensive plan for the venue’s total rebirth.
