Iran dismissed reports of renewed negotiations with the United States on Monday. Officials confirmed that talks with Oman remain focused on maritime safety in the Strait of Hormuz. The statement followed U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim that new discussions with Tehran would begin on Monday. However, Iranian officials said no direct negotiations with Washington are currently taking place.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Iran has no active negotiations with the United States. Instead, Tehran continues technical discussions with Oman on navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. He said the talks have continued for eight days. Both sides are seeking a temporary solution to improve maritime safety.

The spokesperson added that Iranian and Omani officials are identifying a temporary shipping route. The proposal aims to ensure safer vessel movement through the strategic waterway. However, he stressed that the agreement alone will not reopen the strait. He added that authorities must also address broader security conditions.

He also repeated Iran’s position on the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, recent U.S. and Israeli military actions caused the closure. Therefore, he rejected suggestions that disagreements with Oman triggered the situation. He also said the ongoing talks should not signal an immediate reopening of the waterway.

The spokesperson rejected the existing southern navigation route in Omani waters. He argued that the corridor harms Iran’s national interests and regional security. Instead, negotiators are developing a completely new route. According to him, the proposal will replace both the current northern and southern channels.

The discussions continue amid heightened regional tensions across the region. The Strait of Hormuz carries a significant share of global oil exports and commercial shipping. As a result, any disruption can quickly affect energy prices, insurance costs, and shipping operations worldwide.

Oman continues to play an important mediating role in regional diplomacy. Officials say maritime safety remains the immediate priority during the current negotiations. Nevertheless, Iran insists that broader security improvements must come before the Strait of Hormuz reopens. Consequently, governments, energy markets, and international shipping companies will closely monitor the outcome of the ongoing talks.
