U.S. Vice President JD Vance said negotiations with Iran remain challenging because of differing views within the Iranian leadership. His remarks came as Washington continues diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions and securing a lasting agreement.

Vance addressed criticism surrounding the recent conflict with Iran during a television interview. He argued that negotiations face repeated obstacles because competing factions inside Iran support different political approaches.

According to Vance, one group favors continued diplomatic engagement with the United States. However, he said another faction prefers maintaining a confrontational position instead of pursuing negotiations. Consequently, he described the diplomatic process as unpredictable and subject to frequent changes.

Despite those challenges, Vance expressed confidence that ongoing diplomacy would ultimately benefit the United States. He acknowledged that negotiations have experienced several setbacks. Nevertheless, he said the current process continues moving forward despite political difficulties.

Vance also highlighted his role in earlier negotiations held in Islamabad. He led the U.S. negotiating delegation during talks that sought to reduce military tensions between Washington and Tehran. Pakistan facilitated those discussions as part of broader regional mediation efforts.

The negotiations eventually produced the Islamabad Memorandum, which outlined temporary measures designed to ease hostilities. However, renewed fighting between the United States and Iran quickly undermined the agreement. As a result, both sides suspended efforts to implement several of its provisions.

Reports suggested that Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf could visit Pakistan within the coming days. Iranian officials have not publicly confirmed the reports. Therefore, uncertainty continues surrounding the purpose and timing of any potential visit.

Ghalibaf previously served as Iran’s chief negotiator during discussions with U.S. representatives under Pakistani mediation. His participation reflected Tehran’s effort to maintain diplomatic communication despite continuing political and security disputes.

Political analysts believe renewed diplomatic contacts could help rebuild confidence between the parties. However, they also caution that lasting progress depends on sustained political commitment from all sides. Regional stability and future economic cooperation will likely remain central objectives during any upcoming negotiations.

Investors and policymakers continue monitoring developments because diplomatic progress could influence regional security, energy markets, and international trade. Any breakthrough may improve political stability, while renewed tensions could quickly reverse recent diplomatic gains.
