Iran’s Legal Medicine Organization says 3,519 people died during the 40-day war, excluding casualties from later clashes with the United States. The announcement provides a new breakdown of casualties and highlights the conflict’s serious human cost.

Abbas Masjedi Arani, head of Iran’s Legal Medicine Organization, announced the figure while discussing casualties from the conflict. However, he said the total excludes people killed during fighting with the United States in recent weeks.

According to Masjedi Arani, nearly 3,000 victims were men, while almost 500 were women. The figures therefore show that men represented the largest group among the officially recorded casualties.

Authorities identified 270 students among those killed during the war. Most of those students attended Shajareh Tayyebeh School in Minab, where an attack killed students on the conflict’s first day.

The official also reported 38 deaths involving children younger than five years. Consequently, the figures demonstrate how the fighting affected families and vulnerable civilian communities.

Masjedi Arani did not provide a specific breakdown between military personnel and civilians. Therefore, the reported total does not establish how many combatants died during the 40-day conflict.

Iranian state media previously reported that at least 2,008 military personnel died during the fighting. That figure offers additional context, although authorities have not released one complete breakdown covering all casualties.

The reported deaths occurred during intense fighting involving Iran, the United States and Israel. Moreover, military operations affected several areas and created significant humanitarian consequences for local communities.

The reported deaths among students and young children have also increased concerns about civilian protection. Families in affected areas have faced deaths, injuries, displacement and extensive disruption.

Because later casualties remain outside the latest figure, Iran’s overall death toll could increase. Authorities may therefore publish additional statistics as investigations and identification procedures continue.

The latest figures could also influence future political discussions about accountability and civilian protection. Furthermore, they may shape Iranian arguments during diplomatic discussions concerning the consequences of the conflict.

For Iran, the reported 3,519 deaths represent a substantial human cost after weeks of military confrontation. Nevertheless, the exclusion of recent casualties means the final toll remains uncertain.
