Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has told his German counterpart that U.S. and Israeli actions caused insecurity around the Strait of Hormuz.
Araghchi made the remarks during a telephone conversation with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul on Monday afternoon. The two diplomats discussed bilateral relations alongside major regional and international developments.
During the call, Araghchi also briefed Wadephul on Iran’s consultations with Oman over maritime security. Those discussions focus on establishing a safe route for commercial and other maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
The waterway remains strategically important because it connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman. It also serves as a major international route for energy shipments and commercial maritime activity.
Araghchi argued that recent insecurity around the strait directly resulted from military actions by the United States and Israel. Therefore, he urged the international community to consider Washington responsible for the wider consequences.
According to Araghchi, those consequences include security risks and economic disruptions linked to restrictions around the waterway. He also maintained that restoring stability requires an end to what Tehran describes as US aggression.
The Iranian minister called for an end to U.S. military interventions and what he described as violations of American commitments. He specifically referred to the naval blockade as one of the measures affecting maritime security.
Iran continues consultations with Oman as both sides examine practical arrangements for safer maritime movement. The outcome could influence shipping conditions and regional trade if authorities reach an operational agreement.
The Strait of Hormuz remains particularly significant for global energy markets because large volumes of oil and gas pass through the waterway. Consequently, prolonged disruption could increase transportation risks, insurance costs, and energy-market uncertainty.
The conversation also highlighted Tehran and Berlin’s continuing diplomatic engagement despite disagreements over regional security issues. Both foreign ministers stressed the importance of maintaining consultations at different diplomatic levels.
Going forward, the Oman discussions could provide an important channel for addressing maritime concerns. At the same time, continued diplomatic contacts between Iran and European governments may shape efforts to reduce regional tensions.
