Deputy Agriculture Minister for Cultivation Affairs Majid Anjafi announced that domestic agricultural production in Iran has reached 137 million tons. This impressive expansion has occurred despite severe drought conditions, tight water constraints, international sanctions, and significant structural imbalances in the market.

Food security currently represents a fundamental pillar of national security for government officials managing ongoing resource deficits. The agricultural sector achieved this level of production while overcoming one of the most severe regional droughts in fifty years.

The Ministry of Energy supplied only 51 billion cubic meters of water for cultivation activities last season. This allocation fell considerably short of the 65 billion cubic meters mandated by the country’s development plan.

Local producers compensated for reduced water allocations by applying advanced agrotechnology and implementing climate-resilient farming techniques nationwide. Consequently, farmers halved the traditional volume of water required for wheat cultivation while simultaneously increasing overall yields per unit.

The ministry introduced approximately 90 distinct wheat cultivars specifically tailored to regional climate variations across different plains. Additionally, officials successfully restructured agricultural subsidies by shifting direct financial support away from importers and toward local farmers.

This policy revision effectively addressed pricing obstacles while streamlining payments, significantly revitalizing long-term national oilseed cultivation efforts. These comprehensive reforms provided farmers with the necessary financial incentives to optimize crop production patterns.

Kermanshah Province emerged as a national agricultural leader, securing fourth place in overall national crop production rankings. The region excelled through contract farming models and diversified cultivation of grains, forage crops, livestock, and medicinal plants.

Regional administrators successfully coordinated government agencies to accelerate local agricultural development despite persistent environmental and economic constraints. Moving forward, national programs will systematically expand greenhouse infrastructure and deploy modern irrigation networks across major farming regions.

The government has secured essential inputs for upcoming crop cycles, anticipating favorable weather conditions for future growing seasons. Crop products currently constitute 75 percent of total agricultural output, enabling domestic farming to meet 85 percent of the country’s food requirements.
