Over 10 countries joined a major counter terrorism drill in Iran this week. The exercise, called Sahand-2025, aims to strengthen cooperation against terrorism. In addition, it helps countries share knowledge and improve skills. Brigadier General Vali Madani, deputy chief of Operations for the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), said the drill started in Shabestar County. It is in East Azarbaijan province. The exercise will run for five days. It involves active training for ground forces.

The participating countries include Belarus, Iran, India, China, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Moreover, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, and Iraq joined as guest countries. High-ranking officials attended from all countries. For example, there were 20 security officials, 60 chiefs of staff, and 40 commanders of operational units. Together, they worked to improve their knowledge and skills in fighting terrorism.

General Madani said the counter terrorism drill comes after a recent 12-day conflict involving Israel. Therefore, he stressed the exercise is very important for Iran and its neighbors. He added that the IRGC has a strong record in counter-terrorism.

Furthermore, the drill shows Iran is ready to cooperate with other countries to fight global threats. “Terrorism is a global problem that crosses borders,” General Madani said. As a result, the counterterrorism drill helps commanders share knowledge, build teamwork, and improve coordination. The drill also focuses on regional cooperation through the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

In particular, Madani said working together with SCO countries is key for Iran’s security. The exercise includes practical training and simulation exercises. Additionally, it allows commanders from different countries to discuss strategies and exchange expertise. Officials said the drill strengthens trust between countries. At the same time, it helps build long-term cooperation in security and defense.

The exercise emphasizes teamwork, knowledge sharing, and joint planning. Indeed, leaders said such drills are vital to address global terrorism. Over 10 countries participated, showing a united effort to protect regional stability. Overall, the event underlines Iran’s commitment to international security partnerships.
