Tehran is preparing for a major ceremony to honor the Dena martyrs. Their sacrifices strengthen national unity and inspire citizens. Leaders and communities are coming together to commemorate these naval heroes. The funeral processions will occur across 34 main squares and locations in Tehran. Families, civil and military officials, and ordinary citizens will attend. This turnout reflects the deep respect for the sacrifices of the Dena martyrs.

Furthermore, Ali Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, issued a note highlighting the sailors’ bravery. He said the Dena martyrs’ legacy will reinforce the foundation of Iran’s armed forces for years. Larijani praised their dedication to defending the nation during challenging times. Additionally, President Masoud Pezeshkian invited all Iranians to participate in the ceremonies. He recognized the maritime youth who served in international waters far from conflict zones. He also condemned the attack as a violation of international and moral norms.

The IRIS Dena sailed from a multinational naval exercise in India when it was struck by a missile near Galle, Sri Lanka, on March 4. The attack killed 104 crew members. Rescue teams saved 32 sailors, and authorities recovered 84 bodies to be honored in Tehran. This incident followed a broader conflict that began on February 28 after the assassination of Iran’s former Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, and several senior military officials. Consequently, Iranian forces have conducted missile and drone operations in the region.

Experts note that honoring the Dena martyrs serves both symbolic and strategic purposes. The ceremonies demonstrate national unity and Iran’s determination to protect its sovereignty. Analysts predict such events will boost morale among the armed forces and the public. Over the coming days, Tehran will see widespread participation in the farewell events. Leaders emphasize that the Dena martyrs’ memory will inspire future generations of Iranian defenders. The commemorations showcase both grief and national resilience amid ongoing challenges.
