The Iranian Ministry of Health has collaborated with the National Immunization Technical Advisory Group and the World Health Organization. This joint effort successfully establishes a transparent, evidence-based roadmap for vaccine integration between 2025 and 2030. Furthermore, this initiative marks the first official application of a specialized prioritization toolkit within the region. By adopting this systematic approach, health officials intend to upgrade the national immunization strategy to address urgent public health needs.
Historically, the domestic healthcare infrastructure has demonstrated exceptional strength, achieving near-universal coverage for routine childhood immunizations. However, the absence of an overarching life-course vaccination model creates significant health vulnerabilities as citizens age. To rectify these systemic inefficiencies, policymakers utilized a multi-criteria decision-making framework to evaluate seven vaccine candidates. This technical evaluation directly aligned future medical distribution plans with actual domestic program capacity.
The comprehensive assessment process evaluated vital epidemiological factors, including disease mortality rates, incidence levels, and vaccine efficacy. Simultaneously, experts analyzed crucial logistical considerations, such as procurement costs, supply chain stability, and available financial resources. Consequently, the strategic evaluation placed the human papillomavirus vaccine at the highest priority tier. This specific placement reflected the vaccine’s superior score in both public health importance and implementation feasibility.
The resulting layout outlines two distinct rollout scenarios, positioning either the pneumococcal conjugate or seasonal influenza vaccine next. Meanwhile, the final roadmap relegated the respiratory syncytial virus and varicella vaccines to lower priority status. Officials also excluded the hexavalent vaccine from the final framework because its national rollout had already commenced. Therefore, the advisory group narrowed its immediate focus to the most critical unaddressed public health threats.
This progressive framework aligns with broader national goals to expand the active public formulary to seventeen vaccines. Furthermore, local knowledge-based companies are currently spearheading domestic production initiatives for the remaining imported formulations. These technical advancements build upon previous achievements, including the successful distribution of domestic pentavalent vaccine units. Consequently, these achievements highlight the growing capabilities of the domestic pharmaceutical sector.
Integrating modern analytical toolkits allows local authorities to minimize decision-making bias while managing public health resources effectively. Ultimately, the successful deployment of this structured methodology ensures that the national immunization strategy relies entirely on data.
