The Persian audiobook of “The Thing at the Door”, a mystery and psychological thriller by American writer Henry Slesar, has been released by Avaye Chirok, an Iranian audiobook production institute.
Directed and narrated by Bahman Vakhshour, the audiobook is based on the Persian translation by Mandana Garshasbi. The Persian print edition was published by Qesseh Baran Publications.
The story follows Gail Gunnerson, a wealthy young woman whose disturbing memories and unexplained experiences begin to affect her present. As her psychological condition becomes increasingly troubling, a young private investigator attempts to protect her while uncovering the mystery surrounding her situation.
Originally published in English by Random House in 1974, the novel is classified as mystery and detective fiction. Slesar was born in New York in 1927 and built a prolific career across mystery fiction, science fiction, television and advertising.
He published hundreds of stories and wrote under several pseudonyms. His mystery writing included “The Gray Flannel Shroud,” which received an Edgar Award.
Slesar also became an important television writer. He served as head writer of the American daytime suspense series “The Edge of Night” and wrote numerous television scripts. Additionallay, his work on “Alfred Hitchcock Presents” was particularly notable, with 24 segments credited to him.
Therefore, his television career also brought industry recognition. Contemporary records identify Slesar as the winner of the 1974 Emmy Award for writing for a drama series for “The Edge of Night.”
Known for combining crime, mystery and suspense with unexpected developments, Slesar worked across novels, short stories, television and theater.
Furthermore, the new Persian audiobook was produced under Vakhshour’s direction, with Hasti Sadeqi responsible for editing and sound design. The complete recording has a running time of six hours and 11 minutes. A Persian electronic edition is also available through Taaghche, an Iranian digital book platform.
