Iranian filmmakers achieved major success at the recent 21st In the Family Circle Film Festival. The multi-day cultural event ended with five Iranian productions winning prestigious awards. This strong performance highlighted the lasting international appeal of Middle Eastern storytelling.
The jury awarded the Grand Prix, the highest honor in the main competition, to Whisper My Name. Veteran director Rasoul Sadrameli led the project, which had already earned the Best Film award in Iran. The story follows a young woman who seeks personal independence on her birthday. However, her plans change when her father unexpectedly appears after escaping from an institution. These latest international honors further demonstrate the film’s strong critical reception.
The Iran-Tajikistan co-production Fish on the Hook also gained recognition at the festival. Director Muhiddin Muzaffar created the film, which follows a young student who travels with a gambler to find his missing mother. This emotional journey forces the boy to make an important decision about his future. Festival jurors also gave Abdullah Abdulrahimzoda the Best Actor award for his performance.
Iranian cinema continued its success in the short film and animation categories. The jury granted the Special Prize in the short film competition to Farewell Paris. Director Ramak Aminkazemi won the Best Animation award for Paper Flowers. The expert panel also recognized cinematographer Ali Hosseinzadeh with the Best Cinematography award.
Industry experts emphasized that these international achievements hold great importance because of the festival’s diverse judging panels. Filmmakers from Russia, China, South Korea, and Iran served on the official juries. Iranian producer, academic, and screenwriter Shadmehr Rastin also participated as a jury member. Rastin brings extensive industry experience and holds membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The annual festival remains the largest specialized family cinema forum in the Russian Federation. Each year, filmmakers from more than twenty countries submit their works to the event. Instead of focusing only on entertainment, the festival promotes films that explore family values. Organizers divide the main program into three competitive sections for international participants.
