Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi strongly criticized the recent conduct of two French diplomats in Tehran on Tuesday. Specifically, Araghchi called on French officials to prevent any future actions that violate established international diplomatic protocols. Consequently, the dispute marked a sharp escalation in bilateral tensions between Tehran and Paris over diplomatic activities.

Araghchi raised these concerns during a telephone conversation with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot on Tuesday. Furthermore, the two ministers discussed broader regional stability as well as pressing international and bilateral issues. Araghchi insisted that foreign diplomatic missions must strictly comply with the laws of the host country and international diplomatic principles.

French authorities issued a contrasting statement on Monday, alleging that Iranian officials had detained two French diplomats. Barrot said the diplomats had been promoting cultural exchanges with Iranian academic institutions and the public. Subsequently, the French Foreign Ministry summoned Iran’s chargé d’affaires in Paris to lodge a formal protest on Tuesday.

Araghchi also expanded the discussion to address escalating maritime tensions in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. He stated that what he described as American failures to uphold the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding had directly contributed to recent disruptions in maritime transit. Additionally, Iranian officials argued that unilateral U.S. policies have undermined regional diplomatic frameworks and economic stability.

Araghchi assigned full responsibility for the regional escalation to parties that, according to Tehran, abandoned previous international commitments. European governments continue monitoring the diplomatic dispute closely because of its potential impact on global oil transportation routes. Analysts emphasize that security in the Strait of Hormuz remains essential for stability in international energy markets.

The unresolved diplomatic dispute has further complicated international efforts to strengthen security across the Middle East. Foreign policy experts expect additional talks between Iranian and European diplomats in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, international observers continue urging all parties to maintain open communication despite growing political tensions.

Economic stakeholders have also expressed concern that prolonged diplomatic instability could affect long-term regional investment and trade. Diplomatic envoys must continue balancing national security interests with international legal obligations while working to ease tensions.

Future diplomatic negotiations will determine whether Tehran and Paris can restore productive working relations. Consequently, international organizations continue monitoring the high-level exchanges as both governments face increasing domestic and international pressure over the growing diplomatic dispute.
