Iran’s judiciary has denied reports that authorities released any of football star Sardar Azmoun’s seized property. Instead, officials clarified that only assets belonging to some of his relatives had their restrictions lifted because investigators found no connection between those properties and the footballer’s finances. As a result, the judiciary reaffirmed that all assets registered under Azmoun’s ownership remain under judicial seizure.
The judiciary’s media center issued the statement on Sunday following public discussion about the status of the player’s confiscated property. Officials explained that investigators reviewed ownership records and financial documents involving several family members during the legal process. Consequently, authorities lifted restrictions only from properties that relatives had purchased using their own financial resources.
Judicial officials stressed that the legal status of Sardar Azmoun’s assets has not changed. According to the statement, every property previously placed under seizure remains subject to the original court decision. Therefore, authorities rejected claims suggesting that the footballer’s assets had been released.
The case began during the military confrontation involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. During that period, Iranian judicial authorities launched legal action against several well-known public figures. Officials accused some individuals of supporting or aligning with what they described as hostile foreign actors during heightened national security tensions.
Those measures extended beyond legal investigations. Authorities also restricted the professional activities of several public figures while ordering the seizure of selected assets connected to ongoing cases. Consequently, athletes, entertainers, and other prominent personalities faced greater scrutiny.
Azmoun became one of the country’s highest-profile athletes affected by those decisions. Earlier criticism intensified after he shared social media posts featuring leaders of the United Arab Emirates, triggering political debate. Soon afterward, he was removed from Iran’s national football squad ahead of the FIFA World Cup campaign, while authorities also ordered the seizure of his assets.
The judiciary said its latest clarification distinguishes Azmoun’s personal property from assets independently owned by his relatives. Officials added that verified financial records supported the decision to release family-owned property. However, they confirmed that Sardar Azmoun’s assets remain under judicial seizure, with no changes announced to the ongoing legal proceedings.
