Iran is finalizing arrangements for an expansive international state funeral honoring its late leader. Representatives from more than 90 nations confirmed their intent to join the commemorative ceremonies. Furthermore, more than 30 countries already submitted formal requests to deploy high-ranking official delegations. This massive mobilization underscores the significant regional impact of the late leader. It also reflects the complex political dynamics currently shaping the Middle East.

During a press briefing in Tehran, Deputy Interior Minister Ali Akbar Pourjamshidian outlined the logistical blueprint. Pourjamshidian serves as the secretary of the central funeral organizing committee. He explained that authorities deliberately postponed the proceedings to guarantee flawless international coordination. Recent volatile circumstances in the region necessitated this delay to structure the massive event. The entire operation operates under the direct supervision of the Supreme National Security Council. Additionally, First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref heads a specialized national administration headquarters.

The multi-tiered schedule spans several days and distributes ceremonies across multiple strategic locations. Following initial domestic memorial events, authorities will transport the body to Iraq on July 8. Top Iraqi officials will host a formal diplomatic reception at a major airport there. Consequently, the funeral processionals will move through the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala. This international segment required extensive diplomatic preparation, including direct meetings with the Iraqi executive leadership. Subsequently, the final burial rites will take place on July 9 in Mashhad.

Organizers intend to use this momentous occasion to project national stability and reinforce unity. Crucially, the events provide a public platform for regional partners to declare their ongoing allegiance. Therefore, the public will witness the formal transition to the new leader, Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei. To facilitate massive public participation, the government declared staggered holidays across key provinces. Municipalities are making public transit entirely free to manage the millions of expected attendees. Meanwhile, hundreds of foreign journalists already secured media credentials to broadcast the transition globally.
