Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani says a meeting between Masoud Pezeshkian and Mojtaba Khamenei demonstrates continued support.

Mohajerani described the meeting as more than a response to recent political speculation surrounding the president’s position. Instead, she presented it as another sign of ongoing interaction, trust, and support between the leadership and government.

The comments followed reports and claims suggesting that Pezeshkian had considered resigning from the presidency. Iranian officials later rejected those claims, describing them as false reports and rumors.

Pezeshkian also dismissed the resignation claims, while the website associated with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei rejected the reports. The responses aimed to counter speculation about tensions between the presidency and Iran’s leadership.

Reports of a seven-hour meeting between Pezeshkian and the supreme leader emerged amid growing criticism of the government. Some political factions have questioned the administration’s performance during the recent war and negotiations.

Mohajerani argued that the latest meeting should instead demonstrate continued coordination between the government and Iran’s leadership. She also pointed to previous public statements expressing support for Pezeshkian and his administration.

The spokesperson urged political actors to distinguish between constructive criticism and actions that could deepen public distrust. She warned that political polarization could complicate efforts to maintain confidence in government institutions.

The comments come as Pezeshkian’s administration faces pressure over its handling of wartime challenges and diplomatic efforts. Consequently, maintaining political cohesion has become increasingly important for the government.

The reported meeting could therefore carry significance beyond its immediate political context. It may also influence perceptions about the relationship between Iran’s executive branch and senior leadership.

At the same time, continued criticism from political factions could test the government’s ability to maintain domestic support. However, Mohajerani’s remarks indicate that officials want to emphasize unity and institutional coordination.

The government is now expected to focus on managing political tensions while addressing economic and security challenges. Further statements from senior officials could clarify the administration’s position and its relationship with Iran’s leadership.
