Iranian Lawmakers Submit Minister Impeachment Motion Over Performance Concerns lawmakers have submitted a minister impeachment motion against Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh. The motion cites 16 areas of concern regarding the minister’s performance, marking a significant step in parliamentary oversight. Lawmakers have emphasized the importance of accountability in government operations.

More than 70 members of parliament have signed various motions targeting the minister, reflecting growing dissatisfaction within the legislature. Zeynab Gheisari, a member of parliament, explained that parliament tried for months to resolve the issues without resorting to impeachment.

According to Gheisari, lawmakers issued over 400 formal warnings and submitted 340 written questions to the ministry. These measures aimed to guide the ministry toward legal compliance and operational efficiency. However, the efforts did not produce the desired outcomes.

The minister impeachment motion has been officially delivered to the parliament’s presiding board. The board will now determine procedural steps, including scheduling a session for the minister to address lawmakers’ concerns directly. Parliamentary officials stressed the importance of transparency and accountability during this process.

Experts note that such a move signals increasing scrutiny of government agencies and their leadership. Political analysts say that persistent performance issues often lead to broader questions about governance effectiveness and public service delivery. Lawmakers’ willingness to pursue impeachment highlights the urgency they associate with these concerns.

This development comes amid growing public interest in infrastructure and urban development projects across Iran. Delays, cost overruns, and reported mismanagement in recent years have heightened scrutiny of the Roads and Urban Development Ministry. Observers suggest that resolving these issues could have lasting implications for both public trust and economic stability.

The next steps in the minister impeachment motion will likely involve parliamentary hearings where the minister presents explanations and defends the ministry’s record. Depending on the outcome, parliament may vote to remove the minister or implement alternative measures to address the cited problems.

In the broader political context, the impeachment motion underscores parliament’s expanding role in overseeing executive agencies. Lawmakers aim to ensure that government departments operate efficiently and meet public expectations. Analysts predict that this motion could set a precedent for more rigorous oversight in the future.
