Iran PH Relations Set to Strengthen Under New Supreme Leader

Iran-PH relations strengthen as Tehran signals closer cooperation with the Philippines under new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. The announcement comes amid rising tensions following recent military strikes in the Middle East.

Iranian Ambassador to Manila Yousef Esmaeil Zadeh said Tehran respects the territorial integrity and political independence of its neighboring countries. He reassured Manila that bilateral ties will remain strong and mutually beneficial.

The ambassador emphasized that Iran and the Philippines share a long history of friendly relations. He expressed confidence that cooperation will continue to improve under Mojtaba Khamenei, who succeeded his father after a recent attack.

Zadeh addressed regional conflict concerns, explaining that Iran targeted only facilities used in aggression against the country, not neighboring states. He emphasized that Manila and other nations in eastern Asia face no risk of being drawn into the conflict.

He criticized the United States and Israel for escalating the crisis, claiming that their strikes violated international law and undermined ongoing diplomacy. Iran had pursued negotiations mediated by Oman when the attacks occurred.

The ambassador added that countries allowing attacks on Iran from their territory may face defensive measures under international law. He stressed that Iran acts cautiously and respects the sovereignty of all nations. He reiterated that Iran’s operations aim to defend national security, not to expand conflict beyond the region.

Officials in Tehran also highlighted historical coexistence in the Middle East, stressing that external interference drives the current conflict. Ambassador Zadeh described Iran’s responses as proportionate and lawful under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

Experts predict Iran’s PH relations will focus on economic and diplomatic cooperation. Trade, energy, and cultural exchanges may see renewed emphasis as both countries navigate regional instability. Analysts believe the Philippines could benefit from closer ties with Tehran while maintaining balance with U.S. interests.
