Iran diplomacy was at the forefront as Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf addressed the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva. He criticized Israeli aggression and emphasized Iran’s firm response to recent attacks. Consequently, his speech highlighted both Iran’s regional stance and international diplomatic engagement.
During his address, Qalibaf condemned Western-backed military actions and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Moreover, he linked these issues to the weakening of multilateral institutions, which he said failed to act decisively. He stressed that Israel’s attacks on Iran occurred despite active negotiations. “We defended our land and people with resolve,” he stated, highlighting Iran diplomacy and resilience.
He further denounced the international community’s inaction. While many countries condemned violations, the aggressors still faced little accountability. Additionally, he held images of two infants, an Iranian and a Gazan child, to underscore the human cost of the conflict. He described Gaza as a place where daily life is threatened by hunger and violence, urging the world to act immediately.
The Geneva summit coincided with heightened regional tensions. As a result, Iran, the Palestinian Authority, and Yemen staged a walkout during Israel’s representative speech. The event, convened by the Inter-Parliamentary Union with UN support, serves as a critical platform for parliamentary voices worldwide. Furthermore, Iranian officials described the conference as an opportunity to present Iran’s position and highlight the scale of Gaza’s humanitarian crisis.
Qalibaf also used the summit for strategic bilateral diplomacy. He met with Russian official Valentina Matviyenko to strengthen parliamentary coordination. Similarly, talks with Tajikistan’s Fazliddin Atoev focused on implementing over 140 bilateral agreements. Meanwhile, meetings with Qatar and Turkey emphasized joint strategies on Gaza and regional stability. He also engaged with the International Committee of the Red Cross, urging action against the use of food as a weapon.
In addition, Qalibaf met with Malaysia’s parliamentary speaker to discuss energy and economic collaboration. Moreover, he met Iranian expatriates, emphasizing national unity and promising better access to public services abroad. He highlighted the Support for Iranians Abroad Bill, which encourages academic and economic cooperation.
Analysts note that Iran diplomacy at Geneva demonstrates Tehran’s ability to remain active and influential internationally. Therefore, the visit reinforced alliances, projected national resilience, and emphasized Iran’s role in regional security discussions. Officials suggested that Iran will continue using such forums to advance its strategic interests.
