Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi recently emphasized Baghdad’s strong support for dialogue and diplomacy to conclude regional conflicts. He delivered these remarks during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in the capital city on Sunday. Zaidi stated that Iraq prioritizes ending active wars and establishing long-term regional stability through peaceful diplomatic means. Furthermore, the prime minister reiterated that his administration champions dialogue as the primary tool for securing regional peace.

The two officials focused their discussions heavily on the recent breakthrough regarding the Iran-US peace talks. Tehran and Washington officially signed a landmark memorandum of understanding on June seventeenth after intense mediated negotiations. This agreement successfully initiated an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations between the two traditional adversaries. Consequently, the landmark pact mandates continued diplomatic engagement to prevent future flare-ups between both nations.

Araghchi and Zaidi evaluated the broader international efforts necessary to maintain security and respect national sovereignty. The Iranian foreign minister explicitly affirmed the steadfast support of Tehran for the sovereignty of Iraq. He also stressed the immense value of continued bilateral coordination to enhance multi-sector cooperation between neighbors. Following this meeting, Araghchi held additional high-level talks with Iraqi President Nizar Amedi during his official visit.

Local media outlets reported that the high-level meetings covered several critical economic and security issues. Specifically, the diplomats reviewed the outstanding debt payments that Baghdad currently owes to the Iranian government. They also finalized strategic border security measures along the extensive frontier dividing the two Middle Eastern nations. Additionally, the delegations discussed joint operations to prevent anti-Iran militant groups from utilizing sovereign Iraqi territory.

The recent success of the Iran-US peace talks introduces a transformative chapter for Middle Eastern geopolitics. Experts note that this diplomatic milestone drastically reduces the risk of proxy warfare on Iraqi soil. For years, regional conflicts frequently strained the fragile infrastructure and economic growth of the developing Iraqi state. Therefore, the permanent cessation of hostilities provides Baghdad with a rare stabilization window for internal development.

Looking forward, both nations plan to establish joint technical committees to monitor the new border regulations. Analysts predict that successful debt resolution will quickly stimulate cross-border energy trade and infrastructure investments. Meanwhile, international observers remain focused on whether Washington and Tehran will uphold their permanent ceasefire commitments. For now, Baghdad continues to position itself as a central diplomatic bridge in a rapidly changing region.
