The landmark economic commitment was made during a high-level joint agricultural conference held in Tashkent. Iranian Agriculture Minister Gholamreza Nouri Qezeljeh and Uzbek counterpart Ebrahim Abdolrahmanov spearheaded the international summit. Consequently, both countries outlined strategic plans to achieve broader bilateral trade volumes reaching $2 billion.
A prominent Iranian commercial delegation featuring more than 100 private companies and provincial chamber leaders attended the diplomatic meetings. Both governments prioritized joint venture investments focusing on artificial intelligence applications, modern livestock breeding, and extensive pasture restoration. Furthermore, Iranian tech firms expressed readiness to export advanced agricultural drones, smart irrigation networks, and specialized veterinary pharmaceuticals. In response, Uzbek officials welcomed Iranian industrial equipment to support national farm modernization initiatives.
The economic partnership reflects significant structural shifts as Uzbekistan moves away from traditional cotton monoculture toward 400,000 hectares of new fruit orchards. To facilitate expanding trade, Iranian officials highlighted national transit corridors providing landlocked Uzbekistan with direct access to open oceanic waters. Moreover, representatives proposed establishing a green customs corridor, implementing barter trade mechanisms, and settling transactions using local sovereign currencies.
Private sector leaders from both countries emphasized removing existing regulatory hurdles to accelerate commercial investments across regional supply chains. The head of Uzbekistan’s Food Safety Agency also advocated creating unified halal compliance frameworks and standardized sanitary controls. Moving forward, the activated joint agricultural committee will execute these operational agreements through scheduled bilateral working groups.
