Iran staged a dramatic comeback to defeat Indonesia 3-2 in Pool B at the 2026 Asian Games on Tuesday.
Team Melli lost the opening two sets but recovered to win the next three. Iran secured the thrilling victory with scores of 22-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19 and 17-15.
Indonesia started strongly and put Iran under pressure early in the match. However, Iran gradually regained control and improved its performance as the contest continued.
Ali Haghparast led Iran with 22 points and played a key role in the comeback. Meanwhile, Farhan Halim finished as Indonesia’s leading scorer with 19 points.
The victory gave Iran its third consecutive win in the men’s volleyball competition. Earlier, Team Melli defeated Kyrgyzstan and Thailand in straight sets.
The result also maintained Iran’s strong start in Pool B. The team will now turn its attention to the next stage of the tournament.
Iran will face the second-placed team from Pool D on Thursday. The match will determine whether Team Melli advances to the next round.
The men’s volleyball tournament forms part of the 20th Asian Games in Japan. The Asian Volleyball Confederation and Olympic Council of Asia are organizing the competition.
The volleyball matches are taking place in Okazaki and Komaki in Aichi Prefecture. The tournament runs from September 27 through October 3.
Iran’s comeback against Indonesia adds another important result to its campaign. The team will now seek to maintain its momentum in the knockout stage.
