Iranian robotics teams at RoboCup 2026 achieved major international success after earning several awards and strong overall rankings. The delegation secured technical honors while advancing to the world’s top teams across multiple competition categories. Consequently, the results highlighted the growing capabilities of Iranian students in advanced robotics and artificial intelligence.
The RoboCup 2026 World Championship took place in Incheon, South Korea, with participants representing more than 40 countries. Universities, schools, and research institutions joined the annual competition to demonstrate robotics innovation and engineering excellence. Furthermore, teams competed across several specialized leagues over five days of technical challenges.
Morteza Mousakhani, head of Iran’s National RoboCup Committee, said the delegation attended the event with support from the Vice Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy. He described the overall performance as an important achievement for the country’s scientific community. Moreover, he praised the students for demonstrating strong technical skills throughout the competition.
Iranian robotics teams at RoboCup 2026 competed against participants from the United States, Canada, Germany, Croatia, Japan, China, and several other countries. According to officials, the Iranian delegation entered six competition leagues covering rescue robotics, soccer robotics, and stage performance events. Therefore, the teams tested their engineering abilities across a broad range of robotics disciplines.
In the Rescue Line league, the Iranian team received the Best Technical Presentation Award while finishing first in the documentation evaluation. Meanwhile, the Rescue Simulation team claimed first place in eight field competition rounds. It also earned second place in the documentation assessment and the overall team competition.
Iranian teams also advanced to the semifinals in both the Soccer Vision and Soccer Infrared leagues. Although they narrowly missed the podium, they finished fourth overall in both events. In addition, the OnStage team secured a place among the top five competitors in its division.
Officials said the delegation also delivered strong performances in technical presentations, documentation quality, and engineering design. These evaluation categories carry significant importance because judges assess innovation alongside practical competition results. As a result, the awards reflected both technical excellence and consistent project development.
Iranian robotics teams at RoboCup 2026 achieved these results despite logistical and technical challenges before the competition. Mousakhani said school closures, supply disruptions, and manufacturing difficulties affected access to electronic components and equipment. Nevertheless, the students completed their projects and successfully represented Iran on the international stage.
Experts believe the competition results could encourage greater investment in robotics education, artificial intelligence research, and technology development. Furthermore, the achievements may strengthen international cooperation between universities and research institutions. Looking ahead, Iranian officials expect these accomplishments to inspire more students to pursue careers in robotics, engineering, and emerging technologies.
