Iran’s railway growth has strengthened significantly, showing improvements in cargo handling and passenger services. The country’s rail network is now fully prepared to serve travelers during the Nowruz holidays, officials stated.

Mirhasan Mousavi, Deputy Head of the national railway, highlighted the sector’s performance during a Nowruz headquarters meeting. He reported that the railway achieved a nine-percent increase in total cargo tonnage and a four-percent rise in ton-kilometers last year.

The official emphasized that careful planning and dedicated supervision contributed to the improvements. He added that passenger safety and service quality remain top priorities for railway operations. According to Mousavi, certain days before the conflict saw loading figures reach 142,000 tons. Despite challenges such as electricity and gas shortages and temporary closures of cargo centers, the railway managed steady growth.

He noted that efforts to expand passenger-seat capacity and improve service standards have been successful. Cooperation with passenger transport companies enabled smooth operations and timely delivery of services to travelers. Mousavi also reported a decrease in rail incidents, noting that accidents fell by more than five percent last year. Importantly, no fatal accidents occurred on passenger trains, reflecting enhanced safety measures and infrastructure improvements.

At the start of the conflict, when flights were canceled, railway staff responded quickly. Additional wagons and extra trains transported passengers stranded in various cities, Mousavi explained. Currently, all trains scheduled for Nowruz are operating efficiently. Mousavi reassured the public that the railway continues to prioritize safe, high-quality services for both passengers and freight transport. Industry experts suggest that the railway growth indicates a broader trend of investment and modernization in Iran’s transport infrastructure.

These improvements could help boost economic activity, reduce road congestion, and strengthen domestic logistics. Looking forward, Mousavi stressed the importance of continuous oversight and operational precision. He called for ongoing attention to service quality, safety, and capacity expansion throughout the year. The railway sector’s progress highlights the dedication of its workforce. By combining strategic planning with operational commitment, Iran’s rail network appears well-positioned to meet rising passenger and cargo demands.
