Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, congratulated Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei on his election as Iran’s new leader. He expressed confidence in Khamenei’s ability to guide the Islamic Republic toward stability and progress. Pakistan’s statement signals recognition of continuity in Iran’s leadership and governance.

Sharif posted on X, stating, “I congratulate His Eminence Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei on assuming the responsibilities of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.” He also extended condolences on behalf of Pakistan for the martyrdom of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and other family members.

The election took place in Iran’s 88-member Assembly of Experts, composed of the country’s most prominent clerics. They chose Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei as the successor following the martyrdom of the previous Leader during heightened American-Israeli aggression late last month. The vote signals the country’s continued defiance against external pressures and its commitment to independence.

World leaders quickly responded, sending congratulatory messages. Russia, China, Tajikistan, and Iraq recognized the new leader’s authority. Regional resistance movements in Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, and Yemen also expressed support, emphasizing the need for Muslim unity amid hostile external actions.

Analysts noted that the election strengthens Iran’s political continuity and signals stability in regional policymaking. Observers also highlighted that this transition demonstrates the country’s institutional resilience and adherence to its clerical governance system.

Sharif expressed confidence that the new leader will guide Iran towards peace, stability, and prosperity in the coming years. Experts suggest that Pakistan-Iran relations could deepen under Khamenei’s leadership, particularly in trade, security, and regional diplomacy. The international community continues to monitor developments, as Iran navigates post-election challenges.

Analysts predict that the new leader will face both domestic expectations and external scrutiny while maintaining the country’s strategic priorities. Iran’s election of Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei as new leader marks a key moment for the region, signaling continuity, resilience, and ongoing efforts to safeguard national sovereignty.
