A Sepehran Airlines Boeing 737 made a safe emergency landing at Shahid Hasheminejad International Airport in Mashhad. The domestic flight had originally departed for Kermanshah before experiencing a serious mechanical problem during its initial ascent. At approximately 5:39 p.m. local time, the flight crew detected a major landing gear tire malfunction. The crew then declared an emergency and promptly returned to Mashhad Airport.
The aircraft was carrying dozens of passengers who recorded chaotic scenes inside the cabin during the incident. Video footage showed severe vibrations and intense anxiety as passengers prayed for a safe landing. The pilots successfully landed the twin-engine aircraft back on the runway without reported injuries. Meanwhile, emergency response crews surrounded the aircraft upon arrival to inspect the damaged landing gear.
Airport officials immediately closed the active runway to remove debris and thoroughly inspect the runway surface. Shortly afterward, maintenance teams cleared the area, allowing normal airport operations to resume. Airline management subsequently arranged a replacement aircraft to transport the stranded passengers safely to Kermanshah. Nevertheless, aviation regulators launched a formal technical investigation to determine the precise cause of the failure.
This incident marks the second major operational safety event involving Sepehran Airlines in recent weeks. Previously, another Boeing 737 operated by the carrier veered off the Mashhad runway. Decades of international trade sanctions continue to complicate fleet maintenance for domestic commercial airlines across Iran. Moving forward, aviation inspectors will analyze maintenance records and aircraft components to help prevent recurring landing gear failures.
