Unidentified armed assailants killed Sunni cleric Molavi Mohammad Anvar Rigi early Monday morning in Mirjaveh County. Immediately afterward, Iranian regional authorities condemned the violent attack against the prominent local Friday prayer leader. According to District Governor Mokhtar Mohsen Mobaraki, armed gunmen targeted the cleric near his local mosque. Subsequently, emergency medical teams transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he later died from severe injuries.

Provincial officials described the shooting as a deliberate attempt to undermine public security in the region. Furthermore, Governor Mobaraki urged local residents to remain calm while law enforcement agencies conduct a thorough investigation. At the same time, judicial authorities are pursuing all available leads to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack. In addition, parliamentary representative Ali Kord expressed condolences to the victim’s family and provincial religious scholars.

Kord described the killing of Sunni cleric Molavi Mohammad Anvar Rigi as a cowardly terrorist act. Therefore, he called on tribal elders and security forces to take decisive action against violent groups. Historically,Mirjaveh County has represented an important example of peaceful coexistence between Shia and Sunni communities. Accordingly, local leaders emphasized that sectarian unity remains essential for maintaining stability along Iran’s southeastern border.

Provincial officials have frequently reported that hostile militant groups attempt to create divisions among local communities. However, residents have continued to demonstrate solidarity in response to security threats throughout the region. Following the attack, local law enforcement units increased security checkpoints and surveillance measures across Sistan and Baluchestan Province. As a result, authorities stated that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the suspects as quickly as possible.

Religious leaders urged citizens to rely only on official state sources for updates regarding the investigation. Meanwhile, security forces continue joint border patrol operations to protect infrastructure and safeguard border communities. Furthermore, regional analysts noted that border security challenges continue to affect economic development efforts in southeastern counties. Consequently, government ministries have allocated additional resources for rural infrastructure projects and border trade management.

Commercial transport companies are seeking stronger security measures along trade routes to maintain regional economic activity. In the same way, business leaders have called for an increased law enforcement presence to protect investments and supply chains. Therefore, provincial officials are planning emergency security meetings with tribal elders to strengthen long-term stability strategies. Ultimately, community cooperation remains a central element in addressing security challenges across the region.
