Two Iranian judo champions died defending their country during recent U.S.-Israeli military strikes. Hossein Poursaeidi and Hamidreza Jahanbakhsh, both from Isfahan Province, lost their lives in the attacks. Consequently, their deaths shocked the nation and the sports community.

The Iranian Judo Federation strongly condemned the strikes. Furthermore, it emphasized that targeting athletes and sports facilities violates international norms. In an official statement, the federation offered condolences to the families and the Iranian public. It praised the athletes as “proud sons of the Islamic Republic” who sacrificed their lives defending Iran’s security.

Poursaeidi and Jahanbakhsh had years of professional judo experience. Additionally, they represented Iran in national and international competitions, winning multiple titles. Coaches and teammates remember them for their skill, discipline, and dedication to promoting sports across Isfahan and the wider country.

The attacks occurred amid heightened regional tensions. Moreover, the U.S. and Israel struck multiple locations across Iranian territory, prompting retaliatory missile and drone strikes by Iranian forces on foreign bases and occupied areas. Meanwhile, civilians and local institutions faced growing uncertainty.

Officials in Iran demanded accountability for these targeted attacks on non-combatants. Experts warned that targeting athletes threatens international sports cooperation and violates humanitarian norms. As a result, the deaths of these judo champions illustrate the far-reaching consequences of military aggression.

The Judo Federation urged athletes to continue training and participating in competitions in memory of Poursaeidi and Jahanbakhsh. Subsequently, tributes and commemorative events have been organized nationwide. Sports analysts note that honoring the athletes’ legacy helps maintain morale and national unity.

The international sports community is closely monitoring the situation. Furthermore, observers warn that continued attacks could hinder Iran’s participation in global competitions. They emphasize the need to protect athletes and sports institutions during conflicts.

As the region faces ongoing tensions, the sacrifices of these judo champions highlight the human cost of military aggression. Moreover, Hossein Poursaeidi and Hamidreza Jahanbakhsh are remembered not only for their achievements in judo but also for their dedication and ultimate sacrifice defending their nation.
