Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna, confirmed that Iran nuclear program decisions will be made by Tehran. He emphasized that Iranian authorities will independently decide the future of their nuclear initiatives, signaling a significant shift in international oversight. This statement highlights Tehran’s growing autonomy over its nuclear activities while remaining under IAEA supervision.

Ulyanov clarified that no restrictions prevent Iran from pursuing its nuclear program, provided all activities are for peaceful purposes. “Whether Iran will take further steps in developing its nuclear program remains to be seen. The decision rests entirely with Iranian authorities,” he said. He stressed that the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons does not impose strict limitations if operations are peaceful and monitored effectively.

The announcement comes amid rising global attention on Iran’s nuclear capabilities. Previously, Tehran operated under international constraints, but Ulyanov’s remarks suggest a transition toward more self-directed development. This could reshape the regional nuclear landscape and influence diplomatic relations with Western countries.

Iran has steadily advanced its nuclear program over the past decade, focusing on uranium enrichment and research reactor projects. International monitoring by the IAEA ensures these activities remain within the scope of peaceful purposes. Experts note that Ulyanov’s comments reinforce Iran’s legal right under the Non-Proliferation Treaty while leaving room for potential expansion.

Russia’s stance highlights its support for Iran’s sovereign decision-making. Ulyanov’s statement also underlines Moscow’s role as a diplomatic interlocutor in nuclear affairs. Analysts suggest this could signal closer collaboration between the two countries on energy and technological initiatives.

The future of the Iran nuclear program remains uncertain. Ulyanov emphasized that Tehran will evaluate the next steps based on its national interests and international obligations. Observers anticipate that Iran may now proceed with projects previously limited by formal restrictions, though all development must remain transparent under IAEA oversight.

Overall, Ulyanov’s remarks reaffirm Tehran’s authority over its nuclear program. As Iran navigates its strategic choices, the global community will closely monitor developments. The coming months will likely clarify how Iran balances expansion ambitions with commitments to peaceful nuclear use. The Iran nuclear program now enters a stage defined by domestic control, international scrutiny, and evolving geopolitical implications.
