Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf sharply condemned US President Donald Trump on Tuesday, calling his actions a clear US plunder threat. Moreover, speaking to workers and producers in Tehran, Qalibaf criticized Trump’s comments on Venezuela’s oil and mineral resources. He argued that these statements reveal Washington’s true intentions, and as a result, demonstrate ongoing US attempts to exploit foreign wealth. Qalibaf specifically accused Trump of openly pursuing Venezuela’s resources without regard for international law. Furthermore, he said the US president “openly and shamelessly declares they aim to take Venezuela’s oil and mines.” Therefore, Qalibaf argued, this behavior confirms the US’s long-standing pattern of interventionist policies.

Additionally, the Iranian leader referenced remarks by American Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. She noted that Trump’s actions appeared to favor private business interests rather than the American public. Consequently, Qalibaf emphasized this point, reinforcing Iran’s view that US foreign policy prioritizes economic exploitation. Adding historical context, Qalibaf echoed the late IRGC Quds Force commander General Qassem Soleimani, who described US actions in the region as reckless and short-sighted. Moreover, he said the recent statements again validate Soleimani’s warnings about Washington’s disregard for international norms.

Iranian officials have repeatedly criticized US intervention in Latin America and the Middle East. Analysts note that Tehran views these policies as part of a broader US strategy to secure resources globally. Meanwhile, Qalibaf’s remarks follow ongoing tensions over sanctions, military posturing, and diplomatic pressure on Iran and its allies. Experts suggest that Iran’s condemnation serves multiple purposes. For one, it signals Tehran’s strong opposition to foreign interference and reinforces domestic political unity. Additionally, observers highlight that such statements bolster Iran’s image as a defender of national sovereignty in the international arena.

Economically, Venezuela’s oil remains a highly sensitive issue. With global energy markets closely monitoring US-Venezuelan relations, Iranian officials stress that exploiting resources abroad undermines stability. Qalibaf argued that Trump’s approach exemplifies the US plunder threat, which repeatedly harms countries’ sovereignty and economic independence. Looking ahead, Iran is expected to maintain its vocal criticism of US foreign policy. Officials indicate that Tehran will continue advocating for national sovereignty and regional stability. Furthermore, the US plunder threat, according to Iranian authorities, represents an ongoing challenge that requires vigilance and coordinated political response.
