Iran’s national football team will participate in the upcoming Basra four-nation international tournament hosted in Iraq. Sports authorities have scheduled the exhibition matches between November 9 and 17 in the southern Iraqi port city. Furthermore, the friendly tournament will feature national teams from Iran, host country Iraq, Lebanon, and Palestine.

Coaches consider this friendly international tournament essential tactical preparation ahead of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup. Team Melli will begin its competitive schedule by playing Palestine in the opening match of the preliminary round. Consequently, the technical staff plans to test different player lineups while building momentum ahead of the official continental fixtures.

The Asian Football Confederation previously placed Iran in Group C for the upcoming 2027 Asian Cup. The national team faces challenging group-stage fixtures against regional competitors, including China, Kyrgyzstan, and Syria. Therefore, competing in Basra will allow the coaching staff to evaluate squad depth against different international playing styles.

Iraqi sports organizers anticipate strong spectator attendance throughout the November four-nation international football tournament. In addition, the participating teams will gain valuable match fitness while improving overall player cohesion ahead of the continental competition. Moving forward, technical staff members will use match data to finalize their official Asian Cup squads.
