Iran strongly condemned the U.S. decision to impose an airspace closure over Venezuela. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei called it a dangerous escalation in international tensions. He described the airspace closure as a violation of international law and a serious threat to aviation safety. Baqaei said the U.S. action disregards long-established norms governing cross-border flights. He added that the move could endanger commercial airlines, disrupt air routes, and increase regional instability.

The announcement came on Saturday, when U.S. President Donald Trump declared all airspace over and around Venezuela fully closed. This decision forms part of growing U.S. pressure on President Nicolás Maduro’s government amid ongoing political, social, and economic crises. Iran criticized the measure as a provocative act undermining Venezuela’s sovereignty. Moreover, Baqaei emphasized that the airspace closure could set a dangerous precedent, weaken international law, and escalate regional tensions. He urged the international community to acknowledge the destabilizing impact of this action.

Aviation experts warn that sudden airspace closures can affect global airlines. Consequently, flights may require longer routes, higher fuel costs, and increased delays. Furthermore, abrupt restrictions create safety risks for pilots and air traffic controllers navigating unfamiliar corridors. This development follows months of U.S. sanctions and diplomatic pressure on Venezuela. Iran and other nations emphasize the need to respect national sovereignty and resolve conflicts through dialogue rather than coercion.

Analysts note that the airspace closure could further isolate Venezuela economically and diplomatically. Additionally, it may affect trade, tourism, and regional stability. Aviation authorities may need to intervene to prevent potential accidents and disruptions. Baqaei concluded that Iran expects nations worldwide to uphold international norms. He stressed that the U.S. move threatens Venezuela and challenges global aviation rules and international peace. The airspace closure has drawn criticism from multiple governments. Its impact on commercial aviation, diplomacy, and international law will remain closely monitored in the coming weeks.
